How we started
Goole Gymnastics Club began at Boothferry Leisure Centre in Goole on the second Saturday of February 1983.
There were only 12 gymnasts on the mats, two of those originals are now leading coaches at the Club.
The first display by the Club was at Snaith School during the summer 1983 and was followed the following year by several more at fetes and galas around the area. This activity has become a feature of the Club.
The first competition was during 1984, very soon after the asymmetric bars had been purchased. The team travelled to Scarborough and competed against the Goldcrest team at the Graham School. Not a good result for Goole, but the start of a long competition history with many successes.
After fifteen years at the Leisure Centre, the Club had become independent and moved to the present facility in First Avenue. This gave the opportunity to build up the equipment, changing it to become the superior set-up which is in use today.
The new data protection regulations which cover the records and information which the Club is allowed to keep will impact on the historical records which we hold.
We have records of proficiency achievements in the form of written lists of names when gymnasts passed badges which go as far back as 1983.
We have photographs and videos of competitions. displays, groups and a few individuals which also go back as far as 1983.
We do not hold personal data other than names. All addresses, dates of birth, medical issues which may affect gymnastics which had been provided to the Club by parents have been destroyed.
Under the GDPR regulations, you have access to all data pertaining to yourself and have the right to have it altered or removed. All information will be kept for a short while after a gymnast leaves the Club. It will then be removed from our systems if electronic or shredded if paper.
The images captured on our CCTV are kept for a short time for the protection of the premisses, the gymnasts and the staff.
All records, current and past will only be shared with third parties as required by law.
