How we got the track
The Club was approached a couple of years ago by a local organisation which helps self financing groups in the community. This was followed last year with enquiries about our plans to improve the
equipment in the Gym. The existing tumble track has been leased from another club for many years and has served us well. With the help of the members of the donating organisation, a bid was
formulated to purchase a slightly longer track from Eurogym Sport in Sweden, who have made the tracks used for the last three European Championships.
The bid went through many stages of committees until it was successful at February's meeting.
When the latest quotation was recieved, it was almost three thousand pounds over the £10,000 grant which was promised. Paneltex of Hull, who make specialist bodies for vehicles, offered to make up the difference so that we did not need to raid our meagre reserves. They also agreed to purchase the Track immediately to avoid an imminent rise in material costs. We will then pay over the grant when it arrives in May.
Humber Maritime (Services) Ltd. of New Potter Grange Road, Goole, agreed to accept the delivery of the three pallets which arrived last Monday (18th).
The coaches took up the old track after the Easter holiday scheme finished at 3pm last Tuesday, then used a trailer to collect the new track before fitting it together. The competition squad gymnasts were the first to try it at about 8.30pm. Since then, every gymnast who has been in, has used the track.
The quality of work which has been produced on the neww track has already improved. We should see some fantastic gymnastics at the Annual Display.
December 2011 - After a season of displays and competitions, the gymnasts regularly use the track and have raised the standard of tumbling within the Club.
